IRONDEQUOIT, New York — Family members, fellow firefighters, friends, and the Irondequoit community are mourning the passing of Lieutenant John “JJ” Joseph, a respected firefighter, devoted union leader, and public servant who died following a courageous battle with cancer. His death marks the loss of a man whose life was defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
A Career of Service
Lieutenant Joseph dedicated his career to protecting his community, earning admiration and respect throughout the fire service. Known for his professionalism, compassion, and integrity, he consistently placed the safety and well-being of others ahead of his own. His passing has left a profound void among those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Union Leadership and Mentorship
As Secretary of the Union Board, Joseph tirelessly advocated for his fellow members. His leadership and loyalty strengthened both the department and the union. Colleagues described him as a mentor and trusted friend whose influence extended far beyond emergency responses.

Honored with a Final Ride
