BOSTON, Massachusetts — The city of Boston, its cycling community, and countless colleagues are mourning the tragic death of Louisa Gag, a passionate transportation planner and advocate who dedicated her career to creating safer streets and expanding access to sustainable mobility. Louisa died on Thursday, July 9, 2026, after being struck by a truck while riding her bicycle on Tremont Street near Roxbury Crossing. She was 36 years old.
A Career Dedicated to Safer Streets
Raised by civically engaged parents and a graduate of Boston Latin School, Louisa devoted her professional life to public service. Before joining the City of Boston in 2022 as a bike-share and transportation planner, she worked with the LivableStreets Alliance, where she played a key role in advancing Boston’s Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.
At City Hall, she championed projects that improved safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians, including efforts to expand the Bluebikes program.
Remembered as a Bright Light
